Irish Bog Oak

Bog oak is wood from oak trees that have been preserved by being buried in peat bogs often for thousands of years. The Bog oak wood is often black or dark brown from the oak tannin in the wood. If left buried the Bog oak would eventually turn into coal. Irish Bog Oak is often used to make make furniture, sculpture or as turned wood items. Irish Bog Oak Bog Oak is diffucult to work on a wood turning lathe as it has a tendency to split when disturbed from its long matured state by the lathe working and by drying out.
